Anime - Summer Season 2013

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Yes, everyone is watching Attack on Titan. I don't want to talk about something that is universally awesome already so I'd like to focus on the more obscure anime I am watching.

 Yami Shibai

Yami Shibai (Theater of Darkness): Japanese Ghost Stories. If you like Japanese horror it's a good idea to check this series out.

Episodes are only five minutes long and done in the traditional Japanese style of story telling called Kamishibai. Even though it's very short, each episode packs a whole level of creepiness in it. Enough to make it enjoyable.

Episode 2: Zanbai

Episode 4: Hair

Downside is I have to wait a week to see another five minute episode. I hope they do many of these as I really like learning about other countries particular ghost stories.

Anime aside, it's been quite a while since I posted. Life has been keeping us busy. I haven't even posted anything about SDCC 2013 which was awesome. I'll try to post more and be less random.

Unwelcome Guest - Insomnia

Thursday, February 21, 2013

The house is very quiet. I can hear the occasional muffled sound of  a car passing by. Nate is obsessively re-arranging his Springfield layout and the cats have all settled down.

I am wide awake.

I find it difficult to unwind my brain to prepare for sleep. My husband and I are both night owls. The mind is willing to stay up but my body is basically saying, "Fuck you I am going to sleep mode."

When I finally do get to sleep I suddenly wake up before dawn for no reason. Only for a little bit though then I go into a deeper sleep and dream of strange and interesting things. All ruined once the alarm starts blaring.

Meh. Off to bed I go.

PSEUDOMORPHISM A.K.A Ladies Night

Sunday, February 03, 2013

This was the show we almost forgot until two weeks ago when I was reminded in a passing conversation. I just spent money on a gorgeous Sleeping Killer custom too. My alotted toy money was spent!

I wish I was prepared and had more funds like the previous Paul Kaiju show. I was able to purchase my Dancing Boss art piece after everyone has made their purchases and he was just sitting there, unbelievably available.

Alas, I did not have the same opportunity this time and there were opportunities available but the fact that I came away with my number one choice was awesome!

I had been seeing teaser pics of the Vertebrata on Paul Kaiju's Instagram and I fell in love with her. I have one of the resin Strawberry Stigmata girls and she has been literally in the middle of our shelf display by herself surrounded by other PK monster creations for some time. I have seen the Dada headed girl and I hope that one will see production someday but I had no idea that Vertebrata was not just a promise on the horizon but she was coming and coming soon.

I had an opportunity to ask SuperJunk if she had any input on Vertebrata's design and she indicated that it was a straight collaboration between Kaji-san of Blobpus fame and Paul Kaiju. I was told that Blobpus did her skirt and one of the arms, (not sure which one), and Paul Kaiju did the body and head. They also were able to use parts of the Mockbat attachments for her hair which is sweet as her design possibilities regarding the head will have variety.

Nate and I got to TAG in the early afternoon yesterday. I wanted to be able to take pics without rushing and really look at all the pieces and plan the evening. I wanted a Vertebrata but I was not sure which one. When I got to the gallery there were more girls plus they were offering the unpainted ones as well which was a nice surprise.

As I was checking each girl out I kept wandering back to the Blobpus side. The gallery split the pieces on two sides. Left was Blobpus works and right was Paul Kaiju and in the middle was their collaboration masterpiece, Vertebrata.

I kept looking at this one particular girl. She had silver bluish skin and gold metallic highlights on the skirt. She reminded me of a steam punk design.I really liked her a lot.

Nate had also been wandering around and was looking at the Salamander Joe customs from both artists and the Boss Head Blobpus mashup.

A camera full of pictures, two tickets and heads buzzing with so much awesomeness to process we decided to go have lunch. Our original plan was to go to our favorite panini place but going there and finding parking when we got back was going to take awhile so we decided against it and eat nearby and talk about what we had just seen.

We like variety in our collections. So we had specific figures in mind. After looking at our pictures while we ate, I told my husband I am going for a girl. Nate agreed that she was beautiful and I love hearing the words, "Get what you want babe." Depending on price, maybe I can sneak in something small too.

Nate had been eying the Mockbat and Salamander Joe mashup. But he was realistic and we both concluded certain pieces will go fast due to popular demand. So he made his first, second, third etc etc choices. Considering fate has a big chance on your placement since it was lotto style we planned conservatively.

Anyways, we took our time eating and headed off to get some coffee and killed time by discussing the pieces.

We made way our back to TAG to have a last look and to wait for the show to start. Outside the gallery we reconnected with a friend we have not seen since SDCC. We used to see each other more often when we did the art galleries. He has helped me in the past and he still does up to now.

Ted I owe you $5. LOL

The show soon started. Todd and company did a great job keeping the process and purchasing smooth. There was a purchasing limit. One per each artist and it can't be the same figure. That was fair and gave everyone a chance to come home with something. I think I was the 9th person called? Not really sure.

Connell was my personal shopper and I checked out the girl I wanted and she was available! I got her and she was a bit more than I calculated so my second choice was limited. The Vertebrata I got was a Blobpus custom so I went over to check out Paul's side and I picked up an awesome Morning Man custom.

Nate was two or three people behind me and by the time he got there most of his picks were already sold. He was contemplating the last Blobpus mashups available but he ultimately decided to purchase another Vertebrata and Morning Man. I didn't know what he got until we were in line at the cashiers. I was expecting him to pick up other pieces. I was quite pleased with what he selected and after we paid he showed me which ones.

PSEUDOMORPHISM - Custom GO Style Vertebrata by Paul Kaiju  PSEUDOMORPHISM - Custom Yamomark, Sally Joe, Mini Boss and Morning Man by Blobpus

Nate picked up the Devil Man Tribute Vertebrata by Paul Kaiju on the left and that awesome Morning Man Custom by Blobpus on the right. I cannot even begin to say how pleased we are that we were able to have a Vertebrata and a Morning Man from both artists. What attracted him to this particular Vertebrata was how the skirt was painted. He loved the little details on the squid and tentacles. That Morning Man on the right was just insanely painted.

After the initial rush of purchasing I spoke with my husband about what we got and what was sold and we conversed with other people to see what they got and generally enjoyed conversations with our friends and other fellow collectors.

It was a lovely evening and we cannot wait to have these toys in hand. We left early and had a late dinner and we were both tired and turned in early.

Nodame,  our Alpha Cat who sleeps with us, was very attentive last night and he spent quite a while kneading both of us while purring like a beast. It was a good way to end a hectic day.

Gargamel Micro Madness

Sunday, January 27, 2013

We had plans to go out today but the weather outside is cuddling weather. Although I do enjoy cuddling with my husband I just wanted to look back on this weekend and have something organized regarding our toy collection which is looking like an accumulation at the moment. So off to the Fourth Room we went to organize our collection.

I know I speak often of our toy room, but I have not taken pictures of it yet. It's not how I want it to look like at the moment. I still need a small sofa bed couch in there. Nicer curtains and some of our prints up on the wall. Also some house plants my cats can't get to etc etc.

The room is still a work in progress and until we are both satisfied with how it looks like only then I'll take pictures. I don't know when that will be. I am hoping optimistically for the end of the year.

The first one to get an accounting of is our Gargamel Micro collection. This was prioritized due to a need to know exactly what we have and what we still need. I am forgetting which ones I have and having them spread out in different rooms is not helping. So I am busy counting and processing photos and then I'll have them up on our Flickr.

I would also like to think that what I am doing will also help other collectors to see which ones have been made and to figure out what they are still missing but please do not take my photos and re-publish them without permission. Have the decency to link back to me at least.

I'll be checking out my other Gargamel toys to see which ones still require organization. One step at a time and I started with the easiest first. The Micros!

National Nothing Day

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

How ironic that the last day of our Staycation ends on National Nothing Day. Hahaha!

We had plans to go away on our vacation but the cost and recent large purchases made it impractical and if we are not enjoying ourselves completely and worrying about the money we spend then it's definitely not worth it.

I don't need to go anywhere special to make things special with my loved ones. Being able to be together is special enough for us and the scenery, frankly, would be bonus content at this point.

Anyways, we were busy doing something. Saturday was relaxing day. We were planning to watch a movie but decided to stay in to really enjoy the weekend. Most of our Staycation was spend relaxing at home or going out to watch movies. We planned on three to watch but ended up watching only two.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Nate and I enjoyed this movie a lot. Interesting to note that the white haired dwarf on the upper right was Balin whose grave Gimli was crying over in The Fellowship of the Ring. This was when they entered Moira.

Geekiness aside, Nate and I are looking forward to the other parts of this trilogy. Should I dare hope that Peter Jackson might consider adapting The Silmarillion? I don't know. It's a small chance but I would love to see it.

The other movie we saw I had trepidations over seeing it. Quentin Tarantino doesn't hold back on the gratuitous violence. But overall I felt like it was just right. Except for one scene that involved a shotgun but I don't know if that is actually a possible result of being fired at close range.

Photobucket
Django Unchained

I loved Christoph Waltz's performance in this movie. He was awesome in Inglorious Basterds.  Samuel L. Jackson stole the show though. I wont speak anymore of it as it is part of the story but damn he made my fists itch.

As the day plods on, we plan on baking some cookies, kicking Vermivorus the Invincible's ass, watching some Hellsing Vol. 1-4 and cuddling with our furkids. A great way to end our mini-vacation.

I LIVE! We all here for 2013! LOL

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

Looks like we all survived whatever impending disaster that was allegedly set for 2012. No planetary implosion seems to have occured. ^____^;; ::knocks on wood::

I am actually looking forward to 2013. I haven't heard of any half-baked predictions for this particular year.

I have spent the long weekend enjoying the company of my family. Last night, our whole immediate family was actually together to ring in the new year.

No resolutions this year either. No point in starting fresh by breaking promises already. We just have plans. Plans that hopefully we can see to fruition.

One plan I want to execute today is a 365 photo essay project. It can't be all toys all the time either. Something creative to do for myself. Also more writing in this blog. So I have those planned. Hopefully, I can stick to it.

Today's itinerary looks like eating, playing with my cats, some chores like laundry, movies and gaming. I'm starting the new year with my loved ones and doing things I love.
